Denilson’s Journey from SuitUp to GearUp

This month, we’re proud to spotlight Denilson’s inspiring journey—from a SuitUp referral to securing meaningful employment through our GearUp program.
Denilson, a finance major at Downtown Houston College of Business, discovered Career Gear through his campus Career Center while seeking resources to support his professional growth. With a career fair approaching, he connected with his referring agent to schedule an appointment with Career Gear.
Approved for a SuitUp session, Denilson received resume assistance, professional attire for the fair, and one-on-one coaching to help him not only prepare but build confidence in his approach—and in himself. Shortly after, Denilson landed an interview and ultimately secured a summer 2025 internship using the tools and guidance provided.
As a result, he qualified for a GearUp appointment, where he received additional vocational attire and financial coaching to help him succeed in his new role.
We at Career Gear are honored to support Denilson on his path to gainful employment and are excited to continue following his success.

Meet Keith, Our New Intake Director!
We’re excited to welcome Keith to the Career Gear team. In this vital role, Keith oversees donor communications and ensures a smooth, efficient flow of donations into our organization. He also manages the organization of the professional attire our clients receive—helping us maintain the quality and dignity our clients deserve. In a short time, Keith has already become an invaluable part of the team, bringing dedication, precision, and a true passion for our mission. We’re thrilled to have him on board!

Referral Process Update for Member Organizations
We’ve made it easier to refer your clients—no password is needed to access the Referral Request Form. Just click the link below to get started.
This form is exclusively for our Member Organizations, and we ask that it not be shared with individuals who haven’t completed orientation. Clients referred through this form will receive priority over those using the general SuitUp Request Form.
The SuitUp Request Form under our “Programs” section on our website is for clients not affiliated with a partner organization. You should not use this link for your referrals.

Referring Agent Member Orientation
If you’re a new employee at one of our Member Organizations—or just need a refresher—join us for our Career Gear Houston Member Orientation, held every second and fourth Monday of the month.
This informative session is designed to help you get acquainted with the full scope of Career Gear’s programs, including SuitUp, GearUp, Mission Possible, RISE, and more. We’ll walk you through our referral process step-by-step so you can begin confidently connecting your clients to the services and support they need to thrive.

Help Your Veteran Clients Succeed!
Refer your clients to our 6-hour Veteran Employment Workshop on July 11th—open to all veterans, regardless of discharge status, gender, or background. Participants will learn how to build a results-driven resume, sharpen their networking and interview skills, and receive personalized coaching and life-skills training.
They’ll leave with a renewed sense of purpose and a clear plan for their future.

Justice Impacted
Support Your Justice-Involved Clients with a Fresh Start!
Refer your clients to our RISE (Reentry into Societal Excellence) Workshop—a powerful program taught by ex-offenders for ex-offenders. This series helps men transition from incarceration to employment with real-world tools, resources, and encouragement.
Employment builds dignity, breaks the cycle of recidivism, and strengthens communities.
