“Stand Down” is a military term referring to the brief period of time a soldier leaves an active combat area in order to rest and regain strength. Houston Stand Down is open to veterans, male and female, especially those at risk of being homeless.
Since 1993, Houston Stand Down has served veterans in need of vital life enhancing connections. The events original focus was to provide housing to homeless veterans. Over the last 28 years, Houston non-profits and the VA have eradicated veteran homelessness. Today, the event focuses on connecting veterans with wholistic resources that meet basic needs, turn houses into homes, and offer a day of camaraderie to our local veterans.
